Art & D.T.

From Year 4 through to Year 8 the boys will have experienced a broad field of creative practices and been involved in a study of one or more of these following disciplines: drawing, painting, mixed media work sculpture, ceramics and Design Technology. The boys are expected to investigate the role of art in everyday life and in society. It is important that by Year 8 the boys are visually literate, ie: understanding images, signs and symbols as visual elements. We also discuss and share opinions about work produced by other artists, as well as each others.

The boys have the opportunity from an early age to become familiar with painting, drawing, printing, modelling, collage and construction (in 2 dimensions and 3 dimensions). The boys will use the formal elements of Art and observe, explore and comment on their world, using their imagination, by expressing and communicating ideas, concepts and feelings.

By the time the boys leave Wetherby they will be equipped with problem-solving abilities to evaluate their own Art work and the work of others. Most importantly, the boys will have developed in self-confidence, resourcefulness and sensitivity towards others' work.
