Exciting Opportunities for Holistic Development

We firmly believe that a strong holistic education is vital to developing boys’ unique potential and equipping them with tools for success beyond prep school. Our generous co-curricular programme prepares pupils to become confident and well-rounded individuals by developing their skills outside the classroom.

Wetherby Prep boasts an extensive and established sports programme in which pupils can refine their athletic abilities and enjoy much-needed physical exercise regularly. Students are strongly encouraged to pursue their unique interests and explore new areas with our broad, exciting club offering, which ranges from dodgeball and Krav Maga to ceramics, chess, coding and photography. Enriching school trips add depth to the syllabus by boosting engagement and fostering key life skills, while School Council promotes active involvement in the development of the broader school community.

Sports

Our exceptional sports programme helps boys to develop their athletic abilities to a high level, earn various esteemed accolades, and cultivate important life skills and personal qualities.

Through challenging and engaging sports sessions, our experienced coaches and specialist teachers empower students to become skilled sportspeople, whether in football, rugby, cricket, swimming, golf tennis or water polo. Our young athletes achieve top honours in local and national sporting competitions, including the Independent Schools Golf Association (ISGA) tournament and the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Skiing Championships, and compete regularly with leading London and Surrey prep schools. With twice-yearly sports tours to exciting destinations, such as Holland and South Africa, our boys have the valuable experience of competing at a global level.

By providing a positive experience of physical activity, we equip students with vital, transferable competencies such as resilience, adaptability, cooperation and mental agility, and establish the foundations for lifelong wellbeing. Our approach to sports is inclusive and based on Wetherby’s core values: no matter his skill or ability level, each boy is encouraged to get involved and discover and nurture his unique interests.

School Trips

School Trips

Throughout their prep years, boys enjoy regular school trips meticulously planned to enhance syllabus engagement and promote positive values.

From Year 3 onwards, students participate in trips, including an annual residential trip lasting three to five days. These trips are themed to focus on core curriculum elements or foster good citizenship.

In previous years, trips have included visits to PGL Marchants Hill and PGL Liddington for team-building adventures, a three-night surfing trip to Cornwall, and a week in the Lake District for multi-activity experiences. Students have also completed Geography fieldwork projects in Cumbria and celebrated their final prep year with a week-long trip to Shropshire.

Our school trips continue in the holiday period when students embark on exhilarating activities such as skiing, a Classics trip to Italy, and a Battlefields trip to France and Belgium.

School Council

School Council

Our boys are active stakeholders in school life, as evidenced by our passionate School Council. This lively and enjoyable forum allows students to meet weekly and discuss, debate and act upon issues of importance to the school body, while also fostering a sense of community and valuable communication skills. The matters discussed at School Council meetings include everything from adding new options to the school’s club programme to distributing packed lunches and selecting a theme for the Headmaster’s fancy dress.

The School Council is an essential avenue for communication and collaboration throughout Wetherby Prep. The Head of School Council chairs meetings and Miss Lister takes minutes, which are then distributed to the staff and Headmaster via email for discussion, comment and response. The minutes also appear in our weekly school newsletter, Wetherbuzz.

Each form elects a representative at the beginning of the school year. The persuasiveness and fervour of the election manifestos, and the fact that votes are at times very close, show how dedicated our boys are when it comes to representing their peers on School Council.
