This week, our pupils took part in an engaging zero-waste cookery workshop led by the Thomas Franks team. The sessions were expertly delivered by Chef Douglas, with support from the school’s sustainability team, and formed part of our Earth Month activities, following the celebration of Earth Day on 22 April.

Earth Day is an international event that encourages individuals and communities to reflect on how small actions can make a meaningful difference. This year’s theme, Our Power, Our Planet, provided the perfect focus for exploring sustainability through food.

During the workshops, students learned about sustainable food practices, the value of food, and the importance of reducing food waste. With the UK wasting around 9.5 million tonnes of food each year, producing carbon emissions equivalent to 3.5 million cars.  The sessions highlighted how everyday choices can help protect our planet. The workshops combined practical learning with hands-on cooking, making sustainability both meaningful and memorable.
