Fostering Positive Values through Charitable Giving

Kindness and inclusivity are two of our core values. These are at the heart of Wetherby Prep’s approach to charity. We view charitable giving as a way to both lend support to vital causes and equip our pupils with an empathetic understanding of the world around them. With the generosity of our students and parent body, we raise considerable funds for charity each year. As a school, we cultivate a charitable spirit and encourage all boys to give what they can by promoting an ‘every penny counts’ ethos.

Charity events at Wetherby Prep tend to be varied, creative and highly enjoyable, ranging from bake sales and non-uniform days to a ‘Come Dine with Me’ Evening, Candlelit Supper, Quiz Night, Readathon, Fete and Charity Raffle. In addition, every other year, there is a Charity Ball at a popular London venue at which further funds are raised for the three chosen charities and the Wetherby Prep School Bursary Fund. Co-organised by the Wetherby Prep Parent Teacher Association, these efforts provide many opportunities to raise money and awareness while bringing our school and community closer together.

Our Charities

Three charities are nominated each year. For a number of years, we have supported Rwanda Action which seeks to empower communities in East Africa. Pupils also vote for a charity put forward by the boys themselves, with this year’s choice being Cancer Research UK. The third charity is chosen by the Head of the School and for the past two years has been The Felix Project, which redistributes food from retailers and restaurants to those in need in the capital.

Each Form selects a Charity Representative at the start of the academic year. Our Charity Representatives meet up regularly to increase awareness of causes and encourage their peers to become involved in charitable giving.

Wetherby Prep School Bursary Fund

Coming to our prep school is an extraordinary experience. We are immensely proud of the ways Wetherby Prep and the opportunities we offer have helped shape and transform the lives of so many boys over the years. Our dedicated Wetherby Prep School Bursary Fund allows us to welcome boys and families from a range of economic backgrounds, with the dual impact of benefitting the enrollee with a life-changing prep education while also broadening and enhancing the experience and perspectives of all the students.

The Gold Standard Charitable Trust (GSCT)

The Gold Standard Charitable Trust (GSCT) raises money for bursaries at Wetherby Prep and other UK schools that are part of the Inspired Education Group. The intention of the Wetherby Prep School Bursary Fund, which is administered by GSCT, is firstly to support current Wetherby Prep students on bursaries and secondly to add another one or more students each year. Donations to this fund will be designated to students at Wetherby Prep; however, if all the needs of Wetherby Prep students are completely met, funds may also be used where the need is greatest among the schools that GSCT serves.
