learning enrichment and support

Our main objective at Wetherby Prep is to enable each boy to maximise his potential. We have earned a good reputation for supporting boys with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia and attention difficulties. All new boys are assessed on entry and those requiring support are identified and appropriate support structures are set up. The need for support may be short-term, for those needing help with study skills or long-term, for those with a specific learning difficulty. Boys may be withdrawn from class for one to one or small group work with specialist support teachers. For these boys, an Individual Learning Plan is drawn up each term with realistic and measurable targets set. These are subsequently reviewed and rewritten termly.

The Learning Enrichment Department also work closely with staff to help develop an understanding of different learning difficulties and learning styles. This allows teachers to actively differentiate and support those boys needing consolidation. In addition, wherever possible, support staff can work in the classroom to assist boys requiring help. The Department also offers a range of handwriting, touch typing, reading and study skills classes to those boys who need a boost in these areas.

We work very closely with parents and encourage them to collaborate with us in their sons’ education. The school has well established links with educational psychologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other such professionals whom we consult, as and when it is required.
